July 2023
The 4th of July is one of the best times of year – it always has BBQs, nice weather, time off, great drinks, friends and family, and fireworks. We hope yours was a fantastic time as well.
Monthly Meeting
Date: July 15th
Time: 11 am – 12 pm
Location: Old 121
Address: 1057 S Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80226
We’re hosting our second annual off flavor panel. We’ll sample 6 or so off flavors, including some very common off flavors and some flavors we might want in our beers too. We’ll do some of the tasting with light lager and some of the tasting with brown ale to make this session a little more realistic.
This type of event is made possible by dues paid to the club, so if you have already paid for 2023, this event is free! If you have not been able to pay yet, the cost is $15 per person (or you can just pay $35 dues for the remainder of the year). We can also accept payment for the BBQ last month as we realized there were a few folks whom have not paid.
LFC Tumblers Fundraiser
Do you want to help us do even more great fermentation stuff? Do you have a LFC tumbler? They’re so rad and they are for sale and available for purchase at the meeting! Paid Member fee is $30/tumbler and non-paid member (including for a plus 1) fee is $40/tumbler.
LFC July Happy Hour
Date: July 25th
Time: 6 pm – 8 pm
Location: Bierstadt Lagerhaus
Address: 2857 Blake St, Denver, CO 80205
Ashleigh, head brewer and co-owner of Bierstadt Lagerhaus, will be giving us a short tour and questions/answer session (in addition to sharing some beers with us). Bierstadt Lagerhaus has been named "Best Colorado Brewery", "Best Lager Brewery In The Country" and The Slow Pour Pils has been called "Best Colorado Draft Beer" in recent years. See what the critics are raving about – join us at our next LFC happy hour, it’s going to be a good one.
September 2023 Quarterly Challenge
Our next challenge is a good one! It’s a Food Pairing challenge - an excellent opportunity to look beyond and beer to flex those fermentation muscles. For details and how to enter, please go to our website by clicking here.
Education Corner
Looking for a less hectic brew day? Here are some quick tips to help:
Buy your ingredients in advance, don’t wait until brew day?!
Create a checklist of your process and everything you need.
Prep the night before. Measure your ingredients and get your fermenter soaking in PBW, etc. the night before.
Be organized. Use special containers dedicated for your hops and other ingredients. For example, Tupperware with sealed lids work great and allow for hops to be premeasured, sealed up, and refrigerated in advance of brew day. Your brewing salts can be done this way too.
Depending on your style, consider a shorter mash (30-45 minutes) and a shorter boil (15-30 minutes, or even go no boil!).
With everything prepped, clean as you go, to reduce the end effort of a long brew day.
